Resolution relative to the acceptance of a Paramedic/Paramedic First Response grant from Milwaukee County. (Fire Department)
Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to accept and fund a Paramedic/Paramedic First Response grant from the County of Milwaukee in the amount of $14,744,637 with a city share of $4,853,554, and a grantor share of $9,891,083. The purpose of the program is to support City of Milwaukee paramedic services, including staffing, training, education, and vehicle maintenance.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee and County of Milwaukee first entered into a contract for paramedic services on August 25, 1977; and

Whereas, The current contract between The City of Milwaukee and the County of Milwaukee expired on December 31, 2000; and

Whereas, The County of Milwaukee agrees to the provisions of paramedic services to the citizens of the City of Milwaukee through December 31, 2003; and

Whereas, The contract between the City of Milwaukee and the County of Milwaukee provides funding for paramedic services in the form of a grant to the City of Milwaukee; and

Whereas, It would appear that City involvement in this grant program would result in the following major benefits to the City:

Provision of advanced life support services for the citizens and visitors of the City of Milwaukee. Support of staffing of units, supervision, training, continuing education, and medical oversight of personnel, medical supplies, and vehicle maintenance; and

Whereas, The operation of this Paramedic/Paramedic First Response grant program from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2003 would cost $14,744,637 of which, $4,853,554 (33%) would be provided by the city, and of which, $9,891,083 (67%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
