Title
Substitute resolution directing the Department of Employee Relations to provide the results of the Department’s employee exit interviews to the Common Council on an annual basis.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Department of Employee Relations to provide the results of the Department’s employee exit interviews to the Common Council on an annual basis.
Body
Whereas, Currently, the Department of Employee Relations (DER) provides City departments with an exit interview form that is to be sent to employees who are leaving their current positions, including employees who are moving to other positions within the City; and

Whereas, The survey, which is approximately 45 questions long, is voluntary and can be completed anonymously; and

Whereas, The survey asks questions regarding the employee’s time in their former position, including questions regarding any discriminatory experiences they may have had, which are then flagged by DER for additional follow-up; and

Whereas, It is in the interest of the Common Council to have regular access to the results of these exit surveys to inform decisions regarding City employment policies; and

Whereas, The 2024 Budget was adopted by Common Council File Number 230001 on November 3, 2023; and

Whereas, Amendment 27 placed a footnote in the 2024 Budget directing “directing the Department of Employee Relations to annually report exit survey results by department to the Common Council”; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Employee Relations shall provide the results of the Department’s employee exit interviews to the Common Council on an annual basis; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Department of Employee Relations shall present the first compilation of results to the Common Council within 6 months of adoption of this resolution.
