Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department has initiated a proactive directed patrol initiative designed to reduce the levels of crime and calls for service experienced in the City of Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department began this “Neighborhood Safety Initiative” on Sunday, May 20, 2007, to conclude on Saturday, September 8, 2007 comprised of uniform beat patrol personnel concentrating on field interviews of suspicious subjects and engaging in positive citizen contacts and uniform squad patrol personnel concentrating on traffic stops and field interviews of suspicious subjects in identified target areas; and

Whereas, Quality of life issues which have an adverse impact upon neighborhoods will be aggressively enforced; and

Whereas, The “Neighborhood Safety Initiative” will be staffed with initiative specific personnel requiring additional salary funds to ensure the initiative’s success along with providing for necessary district patrol staffing; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department will evaluate the impact of the “Neighborhood Safety Initiative” and report its findings to the Common Council following its conclusion; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works is responsible for clearing snow and ice from city streets in a timely fashion to ensure public safety and the operability of the city’s transportation network; and
