- Analysis -

This resolution requires the cancellation of erroneous taxes because of a decrease in assessment by the Board of Review, the issuance of a check to the City Treasurer or taxpayer as applicable, and the proper reduction of State Tax Credits by journal entries.


BODY:
Whereas, An assessment in the amount of $1,285,310 was made against the personal property of Impel, Inc., Account No. 9527-7019, on the 1996 assessment roll, resulting in a net total tax of $37,831.81; and

Whereas, The Board of Review has decreased this assessment to $647,100, resulting in a revised net total of $19,046.75; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, That the personal property tax levied against Impel, Inc., Account No. 9527-7019, for the year 1996, be partially canceled in the net amount of $18,785.06 (City portion: $14,285.05 - County portion: $4,500.01), and that the proper city officers are authorized and directed to issue a city check in the amount of $18,785.06, payable to the City Treasurer or taxpayer as applicable, to be refunded to the taxpayer where appropriate, plus interest at the rate of 9.6% applicable from date of payment to date of repayment, said amount to be charged to the Remission of Taxes Fund, Special Purpose Account No. 01-086-8001, and said check to be delivered to the Tax Billing & Collection Division of the Treasurer's Office for disbursement; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the proper city officers are authorized and directed to reflect the reduction in State Tax Credits as follows:
