Title
Resolution authorizing and directing the Department of Public Works-Infrastructure Services Division to install hazard identification beacons along West Grantosa Drive in the vicinity of Grantosa Drive Elementary School.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes and directs the Department of Public Works-Infrastructure Services Division to install flashing-yellow hazard identification beacons on West Grantosa Drive to warn motorists of the pedestrian crossing on Grantosa Drive just east of North 82nd Street.
Body
Whereas, One of the major pedestrian and student access points to Grantosa Drive Elementary School, 4850 North 82nd Street, is a crosswalk over West Grantosa Drive, just east of North 82nd Street; and

Whereas, Current signage for this crosswalk consists only of "pedestrian crossing" signs located immediately adjacent to the crosswalk location; and

Whereas, The location of these signs does not afford motorists advance warning of the possibility that students or other pedestrians may be crossing Grantosa Drive; and

Whereas, While the posted speed limit on Grantosa Drive is 30 miles per hour, the wide width and boulevard design of the street encourages motorists to exceed this speed; and

Whereas, Neighborhood residents routinely complain about speeding vehicles on Grantosa Drive in the vicinity of the school; and

Whereas, The location of this crosswalk is also hazardous because of its close proximity to a curve in Grantosa Drive which limits visibility of the crosswalk; and

Whereas, The Parent Teacher Association and the principal of Grantosa Drive Elementary School have requested that the City install more effective pedestrian-crossing warning devices at this location, preferably flashing yellow lights; now, therefore, be it
