Analysis
This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a project Agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) for the programming and preliminary engineering work necessary for the extension and improvement of West Canal Street from Miller Park to North 6th Street. The Agreement provides for $3,200,000 for design work, with 50 percent of the costs being the City's responsibility. WISDOT will submit a new Agreement once the State Budget is finalized to reflect the other phases of the project.
Body
Whereas, The extension and improvement of West Canal Street between Miller Park and North 6th Street is included in the City's Long-Range Major Street Improvement Program; and

Whereas, The extension and improvement of West Canal Street will provide a direct east-west through roadway through the Menomonee Valley to improve access to the valley and to spur future development; and

Whereas, The West Canal Street project will also provide an alternate route for traffic diverted from the freeway system during the upcoming reconstruction of the Marquette Interchange; and

Whereas, The West Canal Street project is eligible for Federal and/or State aid; and

Whereas, We have requested and received from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) a Project Agreement to initiate the preliminary engineering for the project; and

Whereas, The Agreement reflects an estimated $3,200,000 for preliminary design, 50% of which will be the City's responsibility; and
