Substitute resolution naming the playground at 67th and Spokane Streets “Bev and Bill Gardner Park.”

Analysis

This resolution names the unnamed, City-owned playground at 67th and Spokane Streets in honor of Beverly and William Gardner and directs the Department of Public Works to provide appropriate signage.

Body

Whereas, The playground at 67th and Spokane Streets currently does not have a name, making it difficult for police to respond quickly when needed; and

 

Whereas, Naming and providing a sign for this playground would increase its visibility in the neighborhood, thereby potentially drawing more area residents to the area; and

 

Whereas, Naming this playground and placing a sign with the name near the intersection of 67th and Spokane Streets would alert drivers to the presence of a playground and the presence of children, thereby informing drivers of the need to slow down and be aware of children playing in the area; and

 

Whereas, Beverly and William Gardner are local residents of 39 years who started the Brady Block watch and have been active in organizing events for the community ever since; and

 

Whereas, Beverly and William Gardner prefer to be known as Bev and Bill; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the playground at 67th and Spokane Streets is named “Bev and Bill Gardner Park”; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the proper City departments are directed to complete the playground signage and installation.
