Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a 2026 Wisconsin Department of Justice Beat Patrol Program grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a 2025 Beat Patrol Program grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the amount of $168,952 with a city share of $42,238 and a grantor share of $126,714. The purpose of the grant is to conduct proactive community policing beat patrol to identify, reduce, and prevent crime through partnership with the community. The grant will partially fund two (2) Police Officer positions whose primary duty is beat patrol.
Body
Whereas, Under State Appropriation #455.211, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Justice to conduct proactive community policing beat patrol to identify, reduce, and prevent crime through partnership with the community; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/1/2026 to 12/31/2026 would cost $168,952 of which, $42,238 (25%) would be provided by the city and $126,714 (75%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2025 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2026 Beat Patrol Program Grant:
