Title
Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a 2026 Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety Speed Enforcement grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a 2026 Speed Enforcement grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety in the amount of $81,256.16 with an in-kind share of $16,251.23 and a grantor share of $65,004.93. The purpose of the grant is to conduct a high visibility enforcement campaign targeting speed and reckless driving violation enforcement. The grant funds a multi-jurisdictional traffic safety task force focused on decreasing traffic crashes and obtaining voluntary compliance with traffic regulations to decrease fatalities and serious injury collisions.

Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #20.600, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety to conduct a high visibility enforcement campaign targeting speed and reckless driving violations enforcement; and
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 12/1/2025 to 9/30/2026 would cost $81,256 of which, $16,251 (20%) would be provided by the city and $65,005 (80%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2026 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2025 Speed Enforcement Grant:
