Minutes note: Ald. Hines moved to offer a substitute to File Number 021218, approving the expenditure of $15,000 from the Economic Development Committee Fund for participation in the International Council of Shopping Centers. The substitute resolution adds a "Further Resolved" clause which requires that the Department of City Development be prepared to present a report to the Common Council on the economic-development initiatives resulting from attendance at the Convention by July 8, 2003. Analysis
This resolution approves the expenditure of $15,000 from the Economic Development Committee Fund as a contribution to the Community Marketing Development Institute, a non-profit organization which provides technical assistance to several community-based groups located in Milwaukee, for display space at the International Council of Shopping Centers Convention, to be held in Las Vegas, May 18-21, 2003, It also requires that the Department of City Development be prepared to present a report to the Common Council on the economic-development initiatives resulting from attendance at this Convention by July 8, 2003.

Whereas, The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Convention will be held in Las Vegas, May 18-21, 2003; and

Whereas, The Community Marketplace Development Institute (CMDI), a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization provided technical assistance to community-based groups in Milwaukee for the 2002 ICSC Convention; and

Whereas, The Economic Development Committee authorized the expenditure of $15,000 in 2002 for such assistance, with additional money expended by the Department of City Development; and

Whereas, This year's authorization of $15,000 will provide City of Milwaukee groups with room and display space in the CMDI booth on the convention floor, and assistance in securing appointments with specific retailers for Milwaukee sites; and

Whereas, $15,000 will be carried over from the adopted 2002 Economic Development Committee Fund (Account No. 0001-1310-S123-006300) for this purpose; and
