This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to contract with the federal government; which would allow the Milwaukee Fire Department to receive equipment, pharmaceutical antidotes for nuclear, chemical, and biological agents, and reimbursement for other costs, for the development and implementation of a Metropolitan Medical Strike Team. The maximum amount allowed by the federal government for the term of this contract is $350,000.
BODY:
Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department will direct, plan, and administer all aspects of this contract relating to the development of an MMST and MMST system, for managing the human health consequences resulting from the use of weapons of mass destruction by terrorists; and

Whereas, Milwaukee's geographic location, a port on a major international waterway, a midwestern hub for rail traffic, and position on a heavily traveled interstate highway, exposes it as a target for terrorist activity; and

Whereas, In addition to Milwaukee being an industrial and urban center with a population of over 1.5 million people, Milwaukee serves as headquarters for several large businesses and industrial corporations; and

Whereas, The development of an MMST and MMST system is essential to assure the safety and well-being of the citizens and visitors of the greater Milwaukee area; now, therefore, be it
