Title

Substitute resolution expressing the City of Milwaukee's opposition to recently-introduced federal legislation amending the Twenty-Second Amendment to the United States Constitution to permit a president to serve three terms in office.

Analysis

This resolution expresses the City's opposition to House Joint Resolution 29 of the 119th Congress. If ratified, this joint resolution would amend the U.S. Constitution and permit a president to serve three terms in office.

Body

Whereas, On January 23, 2025, Representative Andrew Ogles (R-TN-5) introduced House Joint Resolution 29, titled “Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to provide that no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times”; and

 

Whereas, If ratified, the effect of this Constitutional amendment would be a change in the maximum allowed number of United States presidential terms from two to three; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee is opposed to House Joint Resolution 29 of the 119th Congress; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City of Milwaukee is opposed to any effort that seeks to increase the maximum allowed number of United States presidential terms; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Clerk shall send copies of this resolution to the City’s delegation in the United States Congress.
