Substitute resolution approving an amendment to the Law Enforcement Special Assignment Grant Agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Analysis
This resolution approves an amendment to the April 15, 2003 Law Enforcement Special Assignment Grant Agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Under the terms of the amendment, UWM is providing an additional $7,000 to cover the cost of additional Milwaukee Police Department patrol services within the UWM area for the period of August 28 to October 18, 2003. The agreement also would enable the Chief of Police to further extend this agreement if UWM provides additional grant funds.
Body
Whereas, The parties have entered into an April 15, 2003 Law Enforcement Special Assignment Grant Agreement (the "Original Agreement"); and

Whereas, The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ("UWM") has offered additional grant funds to the Milwaukee Police Department to cover the cost of the assignment of two additional officers to patrol the City of Milwaukee neighborhood immediately surrounding UWM; and

Whereas, The Chief of Police has indicated a willingness to provide special assignment of police officers in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Amendment to Grant Agreement attached to the file; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the grant for the provision of additional law enforcement services from UWM be accepted without further approval unless the grant changes, as indicated in Common Council File 940843; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Chief of Police is authorized to execute the Amendment to the Law Enforcement Services Grant Agreement with the UW System, a copy of which is attached to this file; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller's Office is authorized to:
