Resolution relating to the Milwaukee Fire Department’s acceptance and funding of the “Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service” grant from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service - Labor/Management Grant Program.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) to accept and expend the “Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service” grant from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service - Labor/Management Grant Program in the amount of $112,647 with a city share of $11,265 and a grantor share of $101,382. The funds will be used to enhance MFD employee skills to provide more effective and efficient services to our customers, the citizens of the City of Milwaukee and to improve the working relationships between management and labor in a public sector environment.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department has been selected by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service - Labor/Management Grant Program to receive a “Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service” grant to improve the working relationships between management and labor in a public sector environment; and

Whereas, The MFD desires to partner with Marquette University Center for Dispute Resolution for the duration of this 18-month grant project; and

Whereas, If awarded, this grant will enhance MFD employee skills to provide more effective and efficient services to our customers, the citizens of the City of Milwaukee and to improve the working relationships between management and labor in a public sector environment; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant project from 9/29/06 to 3/31/08 would cost $112,647 of which $11,265 (10%) would be provided from the city and $101,382 (90%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
