This ordinance requires the department of public works (DPW) to abate graffiti on city-owned property within 3 working days after the graffiti is reported to DPW. The ordinance applies to all city-owned property, including buildings and structures such as bridges, fences, parking garages, signs, lamp posts, towers, benches and similar structures. The ordinance requires the department of city development to promptly transmit to DPW any reports of graffiti on city-owned property received by the graffiti hotline.

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
Part 1. Section 116-81 of the code is created to read:
116-81. Abatement of Graffiti on Public Property. 1. DEFINITION. In this section:
a. "Graffiti" means any inscription, word, figure or design marked, scratched, etched, drawn or painted with spray paint, liquid paint, ink, chalk, dye or other similar substances.
b. "Public property" means any city-owned buildings and structures including, but not limited to, buildings, bridges, fences, parking garages, signs, lamp posts, towers, benches and similar structures.
2. ABATEMENT OF GRAFFITI ON PUBLIC PROPERTY. a. Whenever the department of city development graffiti hotline receives a report of graffiti on public property, the department of city development shall promptly transmit the report to the department of public works.
b. The department of public works shall abate graffiti on public property within 3 working days after it receives a report of graffiti on public property.
