This Resolution approves the form of a pre-employment contract to be used in conjunction with persons being considered for the position of police officer and police aide and authorizes the Executive Director of the Fire and Police Commission to execute same on behalf of the City.
BODY:
Whereas, The City incurs a substantial expense in the training of police officers; and

Whereas, The City does not get the benefit of such expense in the event a police officer resigns less than three years after police academy graduation; and

Whereas, In recent years the City has experienced police officers resigning from the police department with less than the said three years seniority to take employment as police officers in surrounding communities; and

Whereas, The City Attorney has devised a pre-employment contract for persons being considered for the position of police officer and police aide under which employee candidates agree to reimburse the City for the cost of police academy training on a formula basis in the event that the employee candidate is offered and accepts employment as a police officer or police aide with the City of Milwaukee and then terminates employment for any reason within 36 months after completing police academy training; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the form of a pre-employment contract for prospective police officers and police aides devised by the City Attorney, annexed to the file, be and hereby is approved, and the Executive Director of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission be and hereby is authorized to execute same on behalf of ...
