Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division, to accept a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Green Solutions grant funding for the construction of bioswales with a maximum reimbursement amount of $225,000. The bioswales will be constructed in the east parking lane and in the terrace area of North Jefferson Street from East Wells Street to East Erie Street and will be constructed as part of a Safe Routes to Transit project to create protected bike lanes. The resolution also authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a post installation Maintenance Covenant with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater from local sewerage systems; and

Whereas, Green infrastructure reduces the volume of stormwater in the sewer system and the amount of pollutants discharged to surface waters; and

Whereas, As part of Safe Routes to Transit project, which creates protected bike lanes, the City proposes pinned on traffic islands in the parking lanes of North Jefferson Street from East Wells Street to East Erie Street; and

Whereas, The City desires to add bioswales as Green Infrastructure to complement the areas where said pinned on traffic islands are located; and

Whereas, MMSD desires to promote the installation of green infrastructure practices such as bioswales and is willing to provide the City funding as part of its Green Solutions Program; and
