This resolution authorizes the expenditure of $25,000 from a special purpose account in the 2000 City Budget to sponsor the 2000 Canadian-American Police & Fire Summer Games.
BODY:
Whereas, Funding in the amount of $25,000 was allocated in the 2000 City Budget to a special purpose account designated "Canadian American Police Games"; and
Whereas, Between July 2 and 10, 2000, the City of Milwaukee will host the Canadian-American (CAN-AM) Police & Fire Summer Games offering Olympic-style athletic competition for police and fire personnel from around the United States and Canada; and
Whereas, As many as 3,000 athletes and 7,000 other visitors are expected to attend the games as well as planned health and fitness seminars, safety seminars and trade shows; and
Whereas, The games will be held on 32 sites spread throughout Greater Milwaukee and are expected to generate $15.1 million for the local economy; and
Whereas, Financial support for the games has been widespread, including contributions from the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, Milwaukee County, Time Warner Cable, Miller Brewery, Motorola, Marcus Corporation and Wisconsin Gas; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Common Council authorizes and directs the expenditure of $25,000 from the Canadian-American Police Games special purpose account, 006300-0001-1310-0001-S188-2000, for the purpose of sponsoring the Canadian-American Police & Fire Summer Games; and, be it
