Title
Substitute resolution supporting the "Religious Institutions in a
Democracy" Project to foster religious freedom and tolerance in
the Philippines.
Analysis
This resolution provides Common Council support to the Freeport
Area International Visitors Council and the Institute of World Affairs
of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in their involvement with
the "Religious Institutions in a Democracy" Project to assist
Filipino community leaders in their efforts to foster religious freedom and tolerance in the Philippines, and extends open invitations to the project participants to observe and share ideas on the role of municipal governments in the promotion of religious freedom and tolerance.
Body
Whereas, The Freeport Area International Visitors Council and the
Institute of World Affairs of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
are currently involved in the "Religious Institutions in a Democracy"
Project, which is focused on assisting Filipino community leaders
in their efforts to foster religious freedom and
tolerance in the Philippines; and

Whereas, The "Religious Institutions in a Democracy" Project proposes to facilitate a dialogue between Filipino and Milwaukee leaders in the religious, governmental, educational, civic, business, health care and judicial communities on the principles and practices of religious freedom and religious tolerance in both the Philippines and the United States; and

Whereas, The "Religious Institutions in a Democracy" Project further proposes that delegations of community leaders from the Philippines and the United States travel to each others' countries to discuss and observe strategies for promoting these principles and practices of religious freedom and tolerance in social and political institutions; and
