ANLS:
- ANALYSIS - This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a permit to the Midwest Express Center builder to close West Wells Street between North 4th and North 6th Streets for approximately four months beginning in January of 1999. Temporary closure of West Wells Street is needed in order to construct the second phase of the convention center project which will span the street. Following its four month closure, the street will be restricted to two traffic lanes for approximately an additional four months. The Wisconsin Center District will assume all costs associated with the temporary closure of the street and will pay the standard permit fee.


BODY:
Whereas, Phase I of the new Midwest Express Convention Center is nearing completion; and

Whereas, Phase II of the project is scheduled to begin shortly after completion of Phase I; and

Whereas, The second phase of the project involves demolition of the current convention center located north of West Wells Street between North 4th and North 6th Streets and extension of the new facility to span West Wells Street; and

Whereas, Demolition of the current convention center is expected to be done by the end of 1998; and

Whereas, Construction of the new span crossing West Wells Street is expected to begin in January of 1999 with installation of structural steel framing likely to take approximately four months; and

Whereas, Installation of the structural steel framing will involve maneuvering of massive steel beams by large-scale equipment; and
