This resolution authorizes and directs the Milwaukee Fire Department to submit a request, and enter into a loan agreement, for training equipment to be borrowed from the United States government under the Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Act. This equipment will be used to prepare the City of Milwaukee for possible acts of terrorism.
 
 
BODY:
Whereas, Under the federal Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Act, the United States government loans equipment to non-federal government agencies for use in performing training in preparation for acts of terrorism; and
 
Whereas, It is in the best interest of the City of Milwaukee and its citizens to be prepared to respond to acts of terrorism; and
 
Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department has been working with the U.S. Department of Defense to prepare the City for a terrorist act; and
 
Whereas, The Fire Department has prepared a list of equipment to be requested from the United States government under the Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Act; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Fire Department is authorized and directed to submit, on behalf of the City, the training equipment request list presented in Exhibit A to the U.S. Department of Defense in conjunction with the Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Act; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Milwaukee Fire Department, acting on behalf of the City, is authorized and directed to enter into a loan agreement with the United States government for this equipment, said agreement being as presented in Exhibit B.
