This resolution authorizes settlement of the lawsuit entitled Paulette Laster, individually and as personal representative of the Estate of Myles Elliot Laster v. City of Milwaukee, et al., Milwaukee County Court Case No. 2023CV004866 and U.S. District Court Case No. 2023CV001030 for the total amount of f $30 000.00.

Body

Whereas, Plaintiff, Paulette Laster, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuits against the Milwaukee Police Department Officers, Brandon A. Gatson and Timeka R. Parker.

 

Whereas, Counsel for the parties have reached an agreement to settle the above-referenced lawsuits for a total amount of $30,000.00 subject to approval by the Common Council; and

 

Whereas, The City Attorney recommends and the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee deem it expeditious and just to settle this lawsuit; now, therefore be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officers be and hereby authorized and directed to issue a City check in the amount of $30,000.00 payable to the order of The LaMarr Firm, PLLC Client Trust Account at 5718 Westheimer Road, Suite 1000, Houston, TX  77057, as soon as practicable, said amount to be charged to the Damages and Claims Fund, Account No. 0001-1490-S118-006300; and be it

 

Further Resolved, that for and in consideration of the above-referenced payments, the Plaintiff, by her representatives, and her attorneys, will provide to the City a release of any and all claims arising out of or in any way related to this incident.
