This resolution, if adopted, authorizes the submission of the 1997 Overall Economic Development Program ("OEDP") Progress Report to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Approval of the 1997 OEDP Progress Report allows the City to continue to apply for funds available through the Economic Development Administration.
BODY:
Whereas, The Economic Development Administration ("EDA") of the U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that the City of Milwaukee ("City") Special Impact Area ("SIA") is qualified to receive EDA economic development assistance subject to the submittal by the City to EDA of an Overall Economic Development Program ("OEDP"); and

Whereas, The City prepared and the Common Council adopted the initial OEDP, submitted it to the EDA, and had it approved by that agency in 1974; and

Whereas, The City has periodically, as requested by the EDA, prepared and adopted OEDP Progress Reports, submitted them to and had them approved by that agency; and

Whereas, The Department of City Development has prepared a 1997 OEDP Progress Report ("Progress Report") for submittal to the EDA; and

Whereas, The OEDP Committee has reviewed the Progress Report and recommends to the Common Council that it be adopted and transmitted to the EDA; and

Whereas, Adoption of the Progress Report by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee and the subsequent acceptance and approval of the document by the EDA will make it possible for the City to make application to the EDA for Federal economic development assistance; now, therefore, be it
