Title:
Substitute resolution authorizing acceptance and expenditure of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Police Department).

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes acceptance and expenditure of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the Milwaukee County Department of Administrative Service.

Body:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.592, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the Milwaukee County Department of Administrative Services, for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.

Whereas, approval for application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the Milwaukee County Department of Administrative Services, was authorized in Common Council File #041599; and

Whereas, The purpose of this grant is to update the Milwaukee Police Department’s fleet of squad cars, and to begin to implement the utilization of cameras in the squads; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant program from October 1, 2004 to September 30, 2008 would cost $410,650, of which 100% would be provided by the grantor; and now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2005 Special Revenue -Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the program titled: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant:
