Resolution relating to application for, and acceptance and funding of, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2005 Great Cities Grant titled “Stormwater Parking” (Department of Public Works).
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works to apply for, accept and fund a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2005 Great Cities Grant titled “Stormwater Parking”. The purpose of this grant is to reduce polluted stormwater runoff from selected City property through the use of “green” best management practices. The total project cost is $121,500, of which 100% will be provided by the grantor. No City matching funds are required.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for a 2005 Great Cities Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works-Operations Division (Forestry Section) would use this grant to conduct a stormwater runoff reduction demonstration project; and

Whereas, This demonstration project would include the following components:

1. Reduce targeted stormwater runoff contributions to the combined sewer system from a City-owned surface parking lot located at 365 East Ward Street (corner of Kinnickinnic Avenue and Ward Street).

2. Achieve this stormwater runoff reduction and increase on-site water detention at the Ward Street parking lot through use of “green” best management practices such as permeable pavement and rain gardens.

3. Use the improvements to the Ward Street parking lot to demonstrate the feasibility of green parking lots and showcase City leadership on stormwater management and reducing runoff.
