Title:
Resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to accept donations of terrorism preparedness equipment from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department. (Police Department)
Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept a donation of terrorism preparedness equipment from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department to enhance the response capability of the Police Department to respond to acts of terrorism involving the use of weapons and mass destruction.
Body:
Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department has received from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department an offer for the donation of terrorism preparedness equipment, which includes six radiological detectors, batteries, filters, and other supplies; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department is purchasing the terrorism preparedness equipment, which is valued at $14,800, through the 2003 State of Wisconsin Homeland Security Grant; and
Whereas, The terrorism preparedness equipment will enhance the capability of the Police Department to respond to acts of terrorism involving the use of weapons of mass destruction; and
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the City of Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation, and expenditure of contributions received by the City; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept a donation of terrorism preparedness equipment from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department, in accordance with established City policies and procedures for acceptance of contributions.
