Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to implement partial closure of North Servite Drive on a trial basis. (Infrastructure Services Division)
Analysis
This Resolution would authorize the Commissioner of Public Works to install a partial roadway closure in the 8600 block of North Servite Drive, immediately south of commercial areas adjacent to West Brown Deer Road. Traffic would be limited to the northbound direction through this partial closure, which would reduce the amount of arterial traffic intruding into the adjoining residential area. The closure would be implemented on a temporary basis to fully evaluate the impacts of the resulting change in traffic pattern on vehicular and pedestrian traffic operation and safety, and land use access in the area.

Whereas, The orientation of North Servite Drive to the North 76th Street/West Dean Road intersection and the North 76th Street interchange with West Brown Deer Road promotes use of this roadway as a means of avoiding congestion on arterial roadways in the area; and

Whereas, This roadway also serves as a shortcut for motorists to access large commercial land uses adjacent to both North 76th Street and West Brown Deer Road; and

Whereas, Traffic volume has grown on North Servite Drive to levels typical of arterial roadways and further commercial development in the area is anticipated to produce further traffic growth on this roadway; and

Whereas, Land use adjoining North Servite Drive is primarily residential; and

Whereas, The roadway was designed primarily to support local traffic generated by the adjoining residential area and current operating characteristics are not consistent with the use for which the roadway was designed; and
