Resolution regarding the Police Department's continued participation in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) project. (Police Department)
BODY:
Whereas, The United States Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has established High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area project (HIDTA) combining the efforts of federal, state and local anti-drug and law enforcement agencies to combat drug trade and use in Milwaukee; and
 
Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department, being a key agency in reducing drug trade and use, has been designated as one of nine participating agencies on the Milwaukee HIDTA Executive Committee; and
 
Whereas, Common Council file 980428, adopted July 30, 1998, authorized the Police Department's participation in the 1998 program year; and
 
Whereas, The ONDCP has again awarded the Milwaukee HIDTA project $3 million for operations for the federal fiscal year ending September 30, 1999; and
 
Whereas, the Common Council will approve the 1998-1999 HIDTA budget when it is finalized and submitted to the City for approval; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department is hereby authorized to continue participation in the HIDTA project, contingent upon approval of the 1998-1999 budget when finalized and submitted.
