Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works - Milwaukee Water Works to execute the necessary documents to serve as a host job site for participants in the MPS School-to-Work Transition Program.
Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Public Schools (“MPS”) established the School-to-Work Transition Program (“STWTP”) to provide a continuum of transition services to MPS students to develop their skills and help them achieve their highest level of independence; and

Whereas, The STWTP includes the Community Assessment and Training Program (“CATP”) to allow students to earn credits while working in the Milwaukee community by learning vocational skills and receiving specialized instruction to meet their individual needs and goals, which are aligned to their individualized education program (IEP) and transition plan; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Water Works (“MWW”) and MPS intend to partner in the placement of students at MWW facilities to provide students with career assessment and training through CATP beginning in January, 2024, for a period of three years; and

Whereas, The MWW has identified essential functions that may be performed by CATP students in the areas of grounds-keeping, custodial work and facilities maintenance; and

Whereas, The MPS would provide a teacher or educational assistant onsite daily and collaborate with MWW to ensure students follow all applicable work rules and regulations;
