Whereas, The Milwaukee Streetcar began service on November 2, 2018; and
Whereas, Streetcar service to the Couture began on April 11, 2024; and
Whereas, The streetcar system currently operates 2 routes, the M line and the L line, with 15-20 minute scheduled headways; and
Whereas, There are numerous festivals and events on Milwaukee’s lakefront which may draw thousands of visitors and create congestion in Downtown Milwaukee and on the lakefront; and
Whereas, Henry Maier Festival Park, Veteran’s Park, Lakeshore State Park and the Milwaukee Art Museum, which host many of the lakefront festivals and events, are within walking distance of the streetcar stop at the Couture; and
Whereas; Enhanced streetcar service to the Couture could noticeably alleviate some traffic and parking congestion on Milwaukee’s lakefront and Downtown during festivals and events; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is directed to develop a plan for enhanced streetcar service from the Milwaukee Intermodal Station to the Couture during major festivals on Milwaukee’s lakefront; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall present its plan to the Common Council within 15 days of the adoption of this resolution.
