Analysis
This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works, in consultation with the Milwaukee Arts Board and the office of the 7th aldermanic district, to issue a Request for Proposal and enter into a contract for commissioning of public art in conjunction with the construction of a Department Public Works field headquarters at 3850 North 35th Street. The funding amount for this public art shall not exceed $50,000.

Whereas, On May 25, 2004, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 040025, authorizing relocation of the Department of Public Works’ Traser facilities and the Milwaukee Water Works’ Lincoln Avenue and Cameron Avenue distribution facilities to a newly-constructed combined facility to be developed at the Tower Automotive site, in the vicinity of North 35th Street and West Keefe Avenue; and

Whereas, This resolution further authorized the City and the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee to enter into a cooperation agreement and negotiate for a turnkey development agreement for the design, construction and occupancy of new Department of Public Works and Water Works facilities at said site; and

Whereas, The City has entered into a turnkey agreement with Central Land Company, LLC, to construct a Department of Public Works field headquarters facility to be completed in early 2006; and

Whereas, City funding is to be approved in 2006 for the purchase of this project upon completion of construction; and

Whereas, Section 304-27-3 of the Code of Ordinances provides for the setting aside of funds for works of art to be placed in City building...
