This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Public Library, through its Library Director, to hire the DeWitt Law Firm to provide legal services related to copyright and licensing.
Body
The Milwaukee Public Library has within its collections manuscripts and/or other works of interest to publishers, historical societies, and the like; and
Whereas, the Milwaukee Public Library is interested in licensing at least one of these manuscripts to another entity for publication; and
Whereas, the Milwaukee Public Library must protect itself and the City of Milwaukee from liability associated with the licensing of such works, which requires specialized legal services; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Public Library may, pursuant to Milwaukee Code of Ordinances 304-23, hire the DeWitt Law Firm to render legal services related to copyright and licensing; and, be it
Further Resolved, that the non-City funds for such legal work shall be expended at the discretion of the Library Director in conjunction with the Library Board; and, be it
Further Resolved, that the Library Director is authorized to enter into such agreement(s), as approved by the Office of the City Attorney, as are necessary to hire the DeWitt Law Firm for this work.
