Title

Analysis
This motion authorizes the renewal of a charter school contract with Darrell Lynn Hines Preparatory Academy of Excellence, Inc. for another five-year term beginning with the 2007-2008 school year and ending with the 2011-2012 school year; as recommended by the charter school review committee. The motion also approves the proposed charter school contract attached to this file and authorizes and directs the appropriate city officials to execute the contract.

Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee, acting by its Common Council, is authorized under Wis. Stat. § 118.40 (2r) to establish and monitor the operation of charter schools; and

Whereas, The Common Council has empowered the Charter School Review Committee to make recommendations to the Council regarding charter schools; and

Whereas, The Common Council, at the recommendation of the Charter School Review Committee, entered into a Charter School Contract with Darrell Lynn Hines Preparatory Academy of Excellence, Inc. for a five-year term commencing with the 2002-2003 school year and ending with the 2006-2007 school year; and

Whereas, The Charter School Review Committee, at its meeting of March 16, 2007, voted unanimously to recommend to the Common Council that the Charter School Contract between Darrell Lynn Hines Preparatory Academy of Excellence, Inc. and the City, be renewed for an additional five-year term; now, therefore

It is moved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the charter school review committee’s recommendation to renew the charter school contract with Darrell Lynn Hines Preparatory Academy of Excellence, Inc. for another five-year term beginning with the 2007-2008 school year and ending with the 2011-2012 scho...
