Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a 2024 Law Enforcement Drug Trafficking Response Automated Drug Test Detection grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the amount of $38,468 with a city share of $0 and a grantor share of $38,468. This grant will fund smartphones and drug test pouches to facilitate automated drug testing and reporting. These tools will assist in streamlining evidence gathering and support the identification of trafficking trends thereby enhancing drug testing accuracy, officer safety, and legal prosecutions.

Whereas, Under AL#97.067, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Justice to provide equipment to streamline drug evidence gathering and support drug prosecution; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 4/01/2024 to 3/31/2025 would cost $38,468 of which, $0 would be provided by the city and $38,468 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2024 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2024 Wisconsin Department of Justice Law Enforcement Drug Trafficking Response Automated Drug Test Detection grant:
