Resolution authorizing and directing the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a project agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for median island reconfiguration and alteration and traffic signal and signing improvements at the intersection of South Layton Boulevard and West National Avenue in the 8th Aldermanic District under the Hazard Elimination Safety Program.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes and directs the proper City officials to execute a project agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the programming and construction of traffic signal/roadway improvements using Hazard Elimination Safety Program funds. The agreement provides 90 percent Federal/10 percent local cost sharing of the preliminary engineering and construction costs. The resolution also directs the City Comptroller to create the necessary accounts to fund the City of Milwaukee's share of preliminary engineering for these projects.

Whereas, A safety audit was conducted at the intersection of South Layton Boulevard and West National Avenue under the Roadway Improvement Demonstration Program sponsored by the American Automobile Association (AAA); and

Whereas, Preliminary approval has been requested and received from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT), along with the Project Agreement to be executed by the City of Milwaukee, for the programming and construction of improvements recommended in the safety audit under the 2004-2007 Hazard Elimination Safety (HES) Program; and

Whereas, The proposed median island reconfiguration and alteration and traffic signal and signing improvements recommended in the safety audit will increase safety at the intersection; and

Whereas, WISDOT has submitted a project agreement for execution by the City of Milwaukee for the design and construction of:
