Title:
Resolution directing the Commissioner of Public Works to award a contract for professional services related to the stabilization of eroded slope adjacent to the Riverside Pumping Station to the firm of Giles Engineering Associates, Inc.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to award a contract for professional services related to the stabilization of eroded slope adjacent to the Riverside Pumping Station to the firm of Giles Engineering Associates, Inc. The executed contract will include the professional services of design, preparation of plans and specifications and construction oversight and material testing services. The subsequent construction activities will proceed through the City’s bid and award process.

Body:
Whereas, The Common Council, through the approval of the 2007 Water Works Capital Improvement Budget, provided funding for the slope stabilization of the Riverside Pumping Station which includes the services of design, preparation of plans and specifications and construction oversight and material testing services and construction; and

Whereas, It is impractical to develop precise bidding specification for these services; and

Whereas, In September of 2005, Milwaukee Water Works entered into a Service Order Agreement with Giles Engineering Associates, Inc. to prepare a Slope Stabilization Study for the Riverside Pumping Station; and

Whereas, Giles Engineering Associates, Inc. completed the Preliminary Report and Milwaukee Water Works selected one of the five proposed repair alternatives and based its 2007 Capital Improvement Request on that alternative; and

Whereas, Continuing with the firm of Giles Engineering allows Milwaukee Water Works to realize both cost and schedule efficiencies due in a large part to Giles Engineering Associates, Inc. knowledge of the project and positive response to City requirements; n...
