Analysis
This resolution authorizes the continued funding of the Homicide Review Training and Technical Assistance grant.
Body
Whereas, Common Council File Number 130857, adopted November 5, 2013, authorized application for, acceptance and funding for the Homicide Review Training and Technical Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice - Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS); and
Whereas, The project has an unencumbered balance at the end of May 2017 of $49,805 which is available through the U.S. Department of Justice - Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS); and
Whereas, Milwaukee Code of ordinances Section 304.81 states that the “carrying over the unexpended funds shall be limited to three years from the year in which the funds were appropriated. A grant project exceeding this period shall be re-funded through a separate resolution”; and
Whereas this limitation applies to the continuation of the Homicide Review Training and Technical Assistance grant; and
Whereas, Continued involvement in this program will provide training and technical assistance to build capacity to prevent homicides and related events, now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that continuation of the grant for Homicide Review Training and Technical Assistance from the U.S. Department of Justice - Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), to be administered by the Health Department, is hereby authorized; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the proper City officials and/or the herein named department head are authorized to continue the grant without further Common Council approval; and be it
