Title:
Substitute resolution granting permission to the Department of Public Works of the City of Milwaukee to construct and maintain a generator, for use as a secondary power supply at an existing sewage lift station, along the south side of West County Line Road, in the right-of-way, approximately 1,500 feet west of North Swan Road.
Analysis
This resolution grants the Department of Public Works of the City of Milwaukee special permission to construct and maintain a generator in the West County Line Road right-of-way.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee owns and maintains an existing sewage lift station located in the West County Line Road right-of-way about 35 feet south of the roadway and approximately 1,500 feet west of North Swan Road; and

Whereas, The lift station receives primary electric power from utility transmission lines and has no secondary power source leaving it inoperable during utility power outages; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works of the City of Milwaukee wishes to construct and maintain a generator, as a secondary power supply, next to said lift station; and

Whereas, Other secondary power source alternatives have been considered and were found to be infeasible; and

Whereas, The construction of said generator would be under public bid contract utilizing previously authorized funds for by-pass pump rehabilitation; and

Whereas, Future maintenance of said generator would be performed by Department of Public Works personnel during routine lift station maintenance visits; and

Whereas, The construction and maintenance of said generator would constitute a non-typical use of the public right-of-way calling for Common Council approval; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is granted special permission to construct and maintain a generator as a secondary power source at said sewage lift station.
