Analysis
This resolution approves the appropriation of $100,000 from the funds available to the Milwaukee Promise initiative for community development activities as follows:

1. $25,000 to the Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc.

2. $25,000 to the Department of Administration for Mentor Greater Milwaukee Initiatives

3. $25,000 to the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, Inc.

4. $25,000 to the Running Rebels

Whereas, On November 01, 2016, the Common Council adopted File Number 160772
authorizing the submittal, acceptance and funding of the City of Milwaukee’s 2017 consolidated community development entitlement funding for Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership and Emergency Solutions Grant Program from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the
Community Development Grants Administration (CDGA).

Whereas, The Milwaukee Promise is a multifaceted city effort to address systemic poverty, joblessness, poor health, crime and low educational achievement in city neighborhoods; and

Whereas, The Common Council desires to support and encourage the development of comprehensive, place-based and data-driven initiatives to transform neighborhoods struggling with issues such as poverty, poor health, low educational achievement and high crime; and

Whereas, The Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal service to low-income and underserved Milwaukee residents; and

Whereas, The Department of Administration will help facilitate Mentor Greater Milwaukee Initiatives with local community partners; and

Whereas, The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing technical assistance to local nonprofit org...
