- ANALYSIS - This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for a Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
 
 
BODY:
Whereas, Southeastern Wisconsin Counties experienced flooding on August 6, 1998 due to severe storms; and
 
Whereas, A Presidential Disaster Declaration was declared in Southeastern Wisconsin Counties, which made funding available for mitigation activities through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, and
 
Whereas, The Department of Public Works submitted a preapplication for the grant program on September 25, 1998 to the State of Wisconsin Division of Emergency Management for acquisition, relocation and demolition of substantially damaged property and for floodproofing homes, and
 
Whereas, After review of the initial information in the preapplication the City of Milwaukee has been invited to submit a formal application for the grant program, and
 
Whereas, It would be in the best interests of the City of Milwaukee to apply for the grant program and utilize any funding obtained for acquisition, relocation and demolition of substantially damaged property and to floodproof City of Milwaukee homes; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee hereby authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to submit a formal application for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the 12.5% local share for the grant program shall come from Community Development Block Grant funds.
