Title

Substitute resolution establishing the 2026 Local Sewerage Charge.

 

Analysis

In accordance with s. 309-54 of the Code of Ordinances, this resolution establishes the 2026 Local Sewerage Charge at $1.85 per 100 cubic feet of discharged water.

 

Body

Whereas, Section 309-54 of the Code of Ordinances authorizes the imposition of a Local Sewerage Charge on each user who discharges waste water into the City sewerage system, pursuant to the authority granted to the City by s. 66.0821, Wis. Stats., and s. 12-27 of the City Charter; and

 

Whereas, Section 309-54 of the Code requires the Common Council to adopt, on an annual basis, a resolution establishing the Local Sewerage Charge; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the 2026 Local Sewerage Charge is established, in accordance with s. 309-54 of the Code, at $1.85 per 100 cubic feet of discharged water; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Local Sewerage Charge shall be based on:

 

1.  For non-certified, non-residential users: water consumption.

 

2.  For certified non-residential users: adjusted water consumption data identified through the certification process of the Milwaukee metropolitan sewerage district with respect to computation of sewer user charges under s. 200.59, Wis. Stats.

 

3.  For residential users: consumption in the winter quarter or water consumption in each succeeding quarter, whichever is less. Winter quarter shall mean the quarter ending in February, March or April.

 

; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That this charge shall be assessed to property owners using the most current water consumption data available; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That this ordinance takes effect January 1, 2026.
