Substitute resolution relating to the renewal of the sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Zadar, Croatia
Analysis
This resolution approves the renewal of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Zadar, Croatia. This sister city relationship shall expire 5 years after the adoption of this resolution unless extended for another 5 years by Common Council resolution.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council created the Sister Cities Committee to assist in the establishment and maintenance of sister city relationships pursuant to Sister Cities International guidelines; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee reviews requests for new relationships, investigates and makes recommendations to the Common Council concerning the establishment of new relationships and the maintenance or termination of existing sister city relationships; and
Whereas, On November 15, 2014, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 140088, establishing a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Zadar, Croatia; and
Whereas, On December 15, 2020, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 201103, which renewed the sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and the Zadar, Croatia for an additional 5 years; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee has reviewed the renewal application of the City of Zadar, Croatia, and recommends that a sister city relationship continue pursuant to ch. 335 of the Code; and
Whereas, The sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Zadar, Croatia, will continue to benefit both cities in the areas of economic development, health care, education, cultural exchange, social awareness and tourism; and
Whereas, This sister city relationship will receive local support through the nonprofit Federation of Croatian Societies Inc.; now, therefore, be it
