This resolution requests the Wisconsin Legislature's Joint Finance Committee to hold a public hearing in the City or County of Milwaukee to receive citizen input and feedback as part of the state budget-writing process.
Body
Whereas, The state budget process should be the result of a transparent and inclusive process of consultation with residents of all parts of the state; and
Whereas, Since 1985, it has been the practice of the Wisconsin Legislature's Joint Finance Committee to hold public hearings at various locations throughout the state to receive citizen input and feedback as part of the state budget-writing process; and
Whereas, For the first time since statewide hearings started, the Joint Finance Committee has not included the state's largest population center, southeastern Wisconsin, to host one of the forums; and
Whereas, The exclusion of southeastern Wisconsin, particularly its urban center --- Milwaukee, leaves a huge void and makes the entire process highly questionable; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council requests the Joint Finance Committee to hold a public hearing in the City or County of Milwaukee as part of the state budget-writing process.
