Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a 2026 Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group Program grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a 2026 Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group (MMDEG) Program grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice through the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the amount of $611,438 with a city share of $449,105 and a grantor share of $162,332. The purpose of the grant is to participate in the Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group Task Force to reduce the volume of controlled substances in the Milwaukee area through targeted interruption of large-scale drug trafficking. The grant funds a portion of salary and fringe benefits for three department members assigned to the task force.

Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.738, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Justice through the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office to participate in the Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Task Force to reduce the volume of controlled substances in the Milwaukee area through targeted interruption of large-scale drug trafficking; and
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/1/2026 to 12/31/2026 would cost $611,438 of which, $449,105 (73%) would be provided by the city and $162,332 (27%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
