Analysis
This resolution supports the Department of Public Works to apply for a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) PROTECT grant, with a goal strengthening surface transportation resiliency in the Sherman Park Neighborhood. The FHWA PROTECT grant provides an 80 percent grantor share and requires a 20 percent local share.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has already entered into State/Municipal Agreement for the design and construction of North Sherman Boulevard from West North Avenue to West Capitol drive; and
Whereas, To protect this investment and the surrounding neighborhood from urban flooding due to extreme weather events the City is developing plans to expand the capacity of the local storm sewer system beyond current levels; and
Whereas, The total estimated cost of a storm sewer capacity expansion project is $14,000,000 with a grantor share of $11,200,000 and a local share of $2,800,000; and
Whereas, A local resolution of support for the proposed project will help the City’s grant application; now therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee supports the Department of Public Works in submitting an application to the Federal Highway Administration PROTECT grant for strengthening surface transportation resiliency in the Sherman Park Neighborhood; and, be it
Further Resolved, That any successful grant projects will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into Project Agreements for funding planning, design, and construction.
