This resolution directs the Department of Administration-Intergovernmental Relations Division and the Common Council’s Legislative Coordinator to seek additional state funding for traffic safety enforcement.
Body
Whereas, By Common Council Resolution File Number 160538, adopted November 22, 2016, the Common Council approved the 2017-2018 City of Milwaukee State Legislative Package; and

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has provided funds to address traffic safety issues including speeding enforcement, driving under the influence and reckless driving; and

Whereas, Reckless driving has contributed to a growing number of serious traffic incidents over the past few years, including an increase in traffic fatalities from 32 in 2013 to 67 in 2015 and 52 in 2016; and

Whereas, The injuries, fatalities and property damage sustained in these incidents directly impacts the health and well-being of city residents and visitors; and

Whereas, Additional funding for increased enforcement efforts is needed to influence driver behavior; therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration-Intergovernmental Relations Division and the Common Council’s Legislative Coordinator are directed to seek additional state funding for traffic safety enforcement; and, be it

Further Resolved, That Common Council Resolution File Number 160538 is amended by adding the following item in the document attached to the file and identified as the “2017-2018 State Legislative Package Proposals”:
