Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Homeland Security Urban Area Security Initiative Equipment grant.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Homeland Security Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI)/Equipment Grant from the US Department of Homeland Security, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $53,814 with a city share of $0 and a grantor share of $53,814, with $13,384 being used for Fire Department purchases. The purpose of this project is to enhance the Police and Fire Departments’ ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from an act of terrorism. Specifically, the Police Department’s aspect of the grant would enhance the Department’s Tactical Enforcement Entry Team and High Technology Units abilities to detect, respond to, and investigate acts of terrorism. The Fire Department’s aspect of the grant would enhance their ability to rescue and recover victims of terrorist acts.

Whereas, Under CFDA 97.004, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the US Department of Homeland Security, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 10/01/06 to 11/30/06 would cost $53,814, which would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
