- Analysis -

This amendment would permit the chair of the central board of purchases, or 5 board members, to call a special meeting by notice of at least 24 hours. Currently, there must be 48 hours notice. If, for good cause, a 24-hour notice is impossible or impractical, a special meeting can be called upon no less than 2 hours notice.

BODY:

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 16-02-3-a of the charter is amended to read:

16-02. Central Board of Purchases: Members, Meetings.

3.                     SPECIAL MEETINGS. a. The chair of the central board of purchases may call special meetings of the board by notice of at least [[48]] >>24<< hours. Special meetings shall also be called on not less than [[48]] >>24<< hours notice at the written request of at least 5 board members. >> For good cause, if such notice is impossible or impractical, shorter notice may be given, but in no case may the notice be provided less than 2 hours in advance of the meeting.<<

Part 2. This is a charter ordinance and shall take effect 60 days after its passage and publication, unless within such 60 days a referendum petition is filed as provided in s. 66.01(5), Wis. Stats., in which event this ordinance shall not take effect until submitted to a referendum and approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
