Title

Resolution authorizing acceptance and funding of a 2019/20 Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force agreement.

 

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to enter into an agreement for the funding of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the amount of $167,841.00.  This agreement will fund overtime expenses for the officers assigned to the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force whose purpose is to identify and target for prosecution criminal enterprise groups and/or individuals responsible for crimes of violence and to focus on the apprehension of dangerous fugitives where there may be a federal investigative interest.  This task force also enhances the effectiveness of other law enforcement resources through an initiative seeking the most effective investigative prosecutable avenues to convict and incarcerate dangerous offenders.

 

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible to enter into an agreement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Task Force program; and

 

Whereas, The Police Department may enter into agreements exceeding $50,000 that have been approved by the Chief of Police as indicated in Section 312-26, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and

 

Whereas, The period of this agreement from 10/1/19 to 9/30/20 would fund $167,841 towards the overtime costs police officers; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Milwaukee Police Department shall accept these funds without further approval.
