Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a 2025 CN EcoConnexions/America In Bloom Community Greening Grant “Summerfest Stormwater Streetscaping Project.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Department of Public Works, Forestry Services, to accept and fund a 2025 Community Greening Grant from CN EcoConnexions/America In Bloom for $50,000 with a grantor share of $25,000 and a city share of $25,000. The purpose of this grant is to remove and replace 14 poor condition ash trees along N. Lincoln Memorial Drive (adjacent to Henry Maier Festival Park) and replace with 18 new and healthy trees, two of which will be stormwater trees with signage to educate the public on the importance of urban trees contribution to stormwater capture. 650 perennials and shrubs will be also be added to these sites to further beautify the area. Key partners for this project include City of Milwaukee Infrastructure Division, Historic Third Ward Association, Summerfest, and environmental organizations.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the CN EcoConnexions/America In Bloom Community Greening Grant Program; and

Whereas, the operation of this grant from 01/01/2025 to 12/31/2025 would cost $50,000 of which $25,000 (50%) would be provided by the grantor and $25,000 (50%) would be provided by the city; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Department of Public Works Forestry Service shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
